The High Chaparral
"Tells All on Henry Darrow"

16 Magazine
June 1968

Henry is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen.  His energy amazes me.  I admire the way he stuck out the hard years before he became a regular on High Chaparral.  He has a close-knit family life that is unlike most of the typical Hollywood families' way of living.  His home is filled with love and respect.

Henry was a little quiet and withdrawn at first -- but then the rest of the High Chaparral cast had already been together for ten days and Henry was a newcomer.  It didn't take long for him to win us all over -- 'cause his warm smile is contagious!

We have a friendly and competitive rivalry about our acting performances.  It's a good thing, because we have different acting styles -- and it keeps us both on our toes.  We help each other get the most out of every scene we do together.

We constantly put each other on.  It's gotten to be a regular part of each working day.  I sit around thinking of things to pull on Henry every night -- sometimes into the wee hours of the morning.  I think he does the same.  (No wonder we both have dark circles under our eyes!)

Henry's real name is Delgado, but he changed it to Darrow soon after reading for the part of "Manolito,"  The funny thing is that changing his name almost cost him his part.  The producer couldn't find him -- 'cause he was looking for Henry Delgado!

Henry is wild about animals.  He has a pet cat named "Flamingo".  Too bad he doesn't get along too well with horses.  He had so much trouble just getting on one that it took 27 "takes" to get it on film.  I'm working with him in my spare time. Maybe he'll learn someday.

Henry is a groovy guy and a good friend.  Sometimes, though, he thinks he really is "Manolito!"  (That's O.K.  I know I'm "Billy Blue!")
